Management Consultancy Association A positive force for the economy

Opinion from CEO, Alan Leaman

New Year Message

04/01/10

Opinion is divided about the UK economy – even amongst the experts. But the consensus is that the worst is over and that 2010 offers the prospect of steady, though slow, economic growth.

But this won’t be a return to business as usual. The business environment has changed and will continue to be tough, however well we do. Businesses will need imagination and new thinking as well as hard work and efficiency in order to prosper.

Consultancies will have a major role to play in this revival. Many have been hard at work helping clients to reduce their costs and to survive the threat of the recession. Now we are reaching the time for other decisions. The pace of change will quicken still further.

Change will be a big theme in the public sector as well. Labour and the Conservatives are arguing about how to bring the deficit down and what sort of public services we will need. The common factor is the need for a once-in-a-generation reform of how government is organised and does its business. The truth is that the expertise, skill and good counsel of the consulting industry will be needed more than ever.

To help explain the value that consultancies generate – for the wider economy as well as their clients -   the MCA is making the Value of Consultancy our theme of 2010. We start with a seminar for members on 15th January. After that, we will be engaging with a far wider community. We’re up for the debate and hope that you are too. Get in contact if you would like any further information.

Good wishes for a successful and prosperous 2010.
