Job Watch Report - How to ensure you hold onto your best people

MCA warns that redundancy programmes risk losing good people as well as bad.

The MCA’s Job Watch report, warns that UK businesses need to manage their redundancy programmes carefully as they run the risk of losing good people as well as bad. This risk is magnified as a high proportion of current and expected cuts are falling on managers who, as a group, are critical in helping organisations survive the downturn.

Part of the MCA’s Dealing with the Downturn series, this report looks urges companies to hold on to their talented employees when making redundancies, and outlines six ways in which organisations can ensure they do not lose their best people:

  1. Be ready – only fools rush in
  2. Understanding employees motivations
  3. Demonstrate leadership
  4. Be honest
  5. Consult where possible
  6. Limit the damage.
