Ben Grinnell, North Highland

Lifetime Achievement Award

MCA Awards 2024 FinalistBen has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. He started a technology-related consultancy business while at university. Next, he joined a big consulting firm. Two years and four promotions later, his focus on trust led him to create a different type of consultancy – Qedis. Here, Ben drove a culture that placed client needs at its core and where rapid growth would enable careers. It grew to 20m pounds before being sold to North Highland, where Ben became Global Lead for CIO Services.

Ben identified the digital distributions dominating consulting at the time and led the crucial transformation from a local, service-based model to a globally integrated, expertise-model. Promoted again to UK Managing Director, Ben challenged the leadership team to go bigger, triggering multi-million-pound consulting projects. Along the way, he coached those who’ve gone on to be promoted to Partner or achieve tremendous success at other firms.

More recently, AI has become the industry’s biggest disruptor, so Ben made it his mission to become a thought leader in the field. This included sharing the depth of his knowledge with CIO clients, introducing the network, speaking at conferences, reviewing pre-publication books, co-authoring publications, leading discussions, and producing a paper on the impact Shadow AI will have on technical debt. Ben believes boards need more digital expertise and is helping develop CIOs to progress toward non-executive positions.
