Rising Star

Since joining Capgemini Invent two years ago, Isobel Bickersteth has made a huge impact. Public-sector clients including the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), Department for Environment, Food and Rural Areas (DEFRA) and RAF Digital don’t want to let her go, extending and broadening the scope of her engagements as a direct result of her contribution, and asking her to take on more senior roles.
It’s no surprise, as her talent for developing business cases has helped clients secure £567 million in funding for essential programmes. Before joining Capgemini, Isobel was a policy adviser for HM Treasury for three years. She now leverages that experience for the benefit of her clients in other government departments, ensuring business cases are financially sound and include a strong narrative of how the programme supports government goals. In addition, Isobel is an expert in navigating complex cross-government relationships.
Many civil servants feel intimidated by the process of business-case development, so Isobel prioritises building their expertise in this area. For RAF Digital, for example, she produced a business manual supported by virtual training for around 100 staff members, enabling long-term knowledge transfer.
She’s done the same within Capgemini Invent, leading internal training to upskill colleagues in the government budget-setting process. She’s also created a new service line that supports government clients through the practical steps needed to turn policy ideas into policy delivery. Outside of work, Isobel’s enjoying training for a half-marathon, fundraising for mental-health charity Mind.
