Experienced Leader

Lee Shinkin’s leadership story doesn’t begin in a Boardroom; it begins on a judo mat. From the age of five, he learnt that the first instant two athletes engage – kumi-kata – determines the contests’ flow. It’s a strategic move: clarifying intent, testing balance, and evaluating winning techniques before committing. It’s a lot like exceptional leadership in consulting.
As a Team GB judoka, Lee won twenty national medals and multiple European medals including Youth Olympic Silver. For the past 10 years, he’s been paying it forward, honouring the team that helped him succeed, using the same considerate principles to develop strong client and colleague teams and ground-breaking initiatives, creating, and delivering industry-leading projects.
Establishing the right hold on the problem.
Judoka secure optimal grip before attacking. Great consultants do the same, deliberately assessing context, constraints, and client motivations before recommending action.
Creating advantage through positioning.
The best athletes do not rush; they position themselves to win. In consulting, this means shaping a project upfront, so each subsequent move creates maximum impact.
Mutual respect.
A good grip is not domination but equilibrium. Effective client relationships are built not on instruction, but on secure, respectful partnership.
Adaptability in contact separates the good from the great.
Opponents shift constantly; judoka learn to respond with intelligence.
Lee leads others thoughtfully, as priorities change, pressures emerge, and progress depends on the ability to adjust.
The discipline, clarity, and respect that forged Lee as a proud GB athlete define him as a valued advisor and leader.
