Anjdeep Gumani’s Journey to Becoming the 2,000th Chartered Management Consultant

Anjdeep Gumani from BAE Systems Digital Intelligence recently became the 2,000th person to gain the Chartered Management Consultant (ChMC) Accreditation. His journey from IT specialist to recognised management consultant not only showcases his adaptability and expertise but also underscores the value of formal accreditation in fostering trust and setting high standards across the industry.

Building Trust, Expertise, and Recognition in Consulting

Anjdeep Gumani’s career began in IT, working as a systems and database administrator at a major bank in Mauritius for six years before relocating to England in 2005. After completing a Master’s degree in Information Security, Anjdeep gained experience at organisations such as BlackBerry and an investment bank, taking managerial roles within the information security functions. Transitioning into consultancy, he took on senior roles at prominent consulting firms including KPMG, Deloitte, Sopra Steria and BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, developing a reputation for delivering client engagements and solutions across diverse sectors. His adaptability has allowed him to step beyond information security and tackle challenges outside his original area of expertise, continually expanding his skills.

Achieving the Chartered Management Consultant (ChMC) Accreditation not only affirmed his years of consulting experience but also provided formal recognition of his ability to deliver at the right level and manage teams effectively. The rigorous application process, supported by BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, required him to carefully select examples that best demonstrated his skills and achievements. While condensing his extensive experience into concise application responses was challenging, Anjdeep found the process rewarding, enabling him to reflect on his career and recognise the value of his contributions.

Anjdeep believes the chartership is vital for the management consulting industry, offering a recognised standard similar to those in accountancy and engineering. As the 2,000th individual to achieve this accreditation, he hopes to see the number of Chartered consultants grow, enhancing the profession’s reputation and providing a framework for new consultants to follow. The ChMC framework supports ethical practice, client focus, and continuous professional development—attributes Anjdeep actively coaches in his teams. Within BAE Systems Digital Intelligence itself, the accreditation demonstrates high standards and integrity, fostering client trust and helping secure new business opportunities.

For those considering the chartership journey, Anjdeep emphasises the need for individuals to excel and prioritise ethics and client needs over personal gain. He advises senior consultants to support junior colleagues, foster teamwork, and remain committed to lifelong learning. The pandemic, for example, taught him the importance of caring for teams during challenging times. He also encourages fellow consultants to grow beyond their technical expertise, nurture trusted client relationships and contribute to the broader consulting practice.

Anjdeep specialises in cybersecurity and notes the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in consulting projects. While AI offers opportunities to enhance functionality, productivity, and even security products, he cautions that it also introduces new risks, particularly concerning data privacy and reliance on automated systems. He advocates for a balanced approach, ensuring robust controls when integrating AI, and closely monitoring such solutions to effectively manage the risks they could potentially pose to organisations.

Anjdeep Gumani’s journey to chartership exemplifies dedication to professional growth, ethical standards, and effective team leadership. His experience highlights the value of recognised accreditation in building trust with clients and advancing the consulting profession. By continuously learning and adapting, Anjdeep remains committed to helping others succeed and driving industry standards forward.
