Social Value

A social value project empowering young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with critical thinking and communication skills to enhance social mobility and foster future leaders.
In a complex world, critical thinking and constructive dialogue are crucial. Yet, many young people from high-poverty areas lack confidence and opportunities, holding them back on their path to education and employment.
Deloitte’s transformative partnership with Debate Mate makes an enormous impact, tapping into our people’s talents, helping to address social mobility, diversity and skills development, whilst supporting some of our clients’ recruitment aspirations.
Deloitte’s involvement has been instrumental in:
Empowering future leaders: Designing and executing large-scale debate competitions – we provided young people with vital public speaking, critical thinking, and communication skills, raising their aspirations and exposing them to new industries.
Multi-faceted partnership: This multi-strand partnership delivered a nationwide Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) takeover week and school competition (celebrated at a later conference), alongside sponsorships in West Midlands (with Department for Work and Pensions) and Manchester schools.
Driving diversity in critical sectors: For the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Deloitte’s initiative delivered social value commitments, inspiring young women and contributing to a more inclusive future for the nuclear industry.
Boosting social mobility: Through partnerships with organisations like the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), we amplified Debate Mate’s reach, equipping students with the confidence and skills needed to access higher education and employment, directly addressing the disparity where only 28.1% of students eligible for free school meals access higher education by 19.
Fostering a sense of purpose: Deloitte volunteers brought their professional skills to mentor and judge, reinforcing their own sense of purpose and providing invaluable real-world interaction for students.
