Establishing a new industry standard for sustainability and driving measurable circularity within Formula 1.

With championship-winning in its DNA, McLaren Racing is defining the new formula for success: uniting uncompromising performance with strategic sustainability. With a bold aspiration to design a circular Formula 1 car, the aim was to demonstrate that sustainability and performance are not mutually exclusive.

As the strategic transformational partner to the 2025 Formula 1 Constructors’ Champions, Deloitte has helped McLaren transform its bold ambition into measurable and actionable progress. Deloitte has uniquely combined vision-setting, development of a standardised metric, implementation of the standard, followed by actionable roadmap.

Deloitte and McLaren’s long-standing partnership has enabled the establishment and implementation of a structured circularity measurement methodology for F1. This began with conceptual goal-setting and progressed to the co-development of the “F1 Constructors’ Circularity Handbook,” which was commissioned and adopted by the FIA.
This robust guide provides any F1 team with a consistent framework to measure the circularity. Following the implementation of this handbook, Deloitte supported McLaren in calculating their circularity metric, at 37% for 2024. This provides McLaren with a crucial baseline and represents a significant achievement, particularly given the complexities of data quality, collection and availability.

Deloitte is now developing a multi-year strategic roadmap to further enhance circularity across McLaren’s F1 technical, data, people, ecosystems, and supply chain, thereby validating the effectiveness of the initial four-step approach.

This project exemplifies how strategic insight can drive profound, industry-wide change and demonstrates a shared commitment between McLaren and Deloitte to drive progress both on and off the track.
