Managementors with Amey

Performance Improvement in the Private Sector

MCA Awards Finalist 2026

Managementors partnered with Amey to transform operational performance within its South West Scotland Highways Maintenance contract by improving planning, resource utilisation, and performance management. The 18-week programme delivered major productivity gains, reduced overtime, and generated £2.4m in annualised financial benefit while embedding sustainable, data-driven operational practices.

Amey, a leading UK infrastructure services provider, sought to improve performance within its South West Scotland highways maintenance contract, following several years of flat financial returns. Productivity challenges, inconsistent planning, high reliance on overtime, and under-utilised workforce capacity were limiting both operational efficiency and margin growth.

Managementors partnered with Amey to deliver an 18-week transformation programme focused on strengthening planning, improving resource utilisation, and embedding robust performance management. Working closely with leaders and frontline teams, they redesigned core operational processes across inspection, planning, and delivery functions.

The intervention introduced clear planning principles, structured prioritisation of works, and integrated performance dashboards providing real-time visibility of workload, capacity, and output. Routine performance forums and defined accountability mechanisms replaced fragmented reporting, enabling confident, data-driven operational decision-making. The programme also built internal capability, shifting the culture from reactive, overtime-driven delivery to proactive and disciplined operational management.

The impact was substantial:

-140% increase in operational productivity
-45% reduction in overtime
-£2.4m annualised financial benefit
-10% reduction of operative workforce
-Category-2 works revenue doubled

Leaders gained greater confidence in managing performance and risk, while managers demonstrated higher ownership, strengthened accountability, and sustained adoption of new ways of working. The transformation not only improved commercial outcomes but also enhanced resilience, governance, and operational maturity across the contract.

As a result of the strong performance trajectory, Amey has extended its partnership with Managementors, deploying the solution into another area of its infrastructure division.

“Our aim was to implement a new operating model, drive efficiencies and improve productivity, this was well defined, from the beginning. The opportunity was articulated well and the roadmap to achieve it was crystalised. I was delighted with the project outcomes, through effective collaboration we increased output, improved the network, optimised the operation and significantly reduced cost. I really enjoyed working with the Managementors team, they integrated extremely well.”  (Roddy Clark – Business Unit Director, Scotland)
