MCA Member Briefing with Geoff White – Emerging Threats and Trends in Cybercrime

MCA members are invited to an online briefing with investigative journalist and author Geoff White, examining how cyber and financial crime are evolving and the implications for cybersecurity, risk and resilience in today’s organisations.

Drawing on years of first-hand investigations into fraud, money laundering, cyber‑enabled theft and state‑linked cyber activity, Geoff will unpack how modern criminal networks operate, how they exploit organisational and systemic weaknesses, and where defensive approaches are failing to keep pace. Using concrete case studies, he will explore how technological change, including automation, digital finance, data interconnectivity and AI, is reshaping both the threat landscape and the nature of cyber risk.

The session will focus on practical insight rather than theory, helping participants understand not just what is happening, but why current controls and assumptions are being tested, and what that means for those responsible for security, governance and advisory decisions.

Session objectives

The briefing will aim to:

·  Develop a clear, evidence‑based understanding of current and emerging cyber and financial crime risks, interrogating the gap between reported cyber‑crime and actual experienced cyber‑crime.

·  Draw out practical lessons from real-world cases – drawn from Geoff’s work on organisations that treat cybercrime as everyday business activity – that firms can apply to strengthen cyber resilience and reduce exposure.

·  Unpack how criminals actually exploit organisational complexity, not just technical flaws, and equip consultants advising clients with up‑to‑date insight into how this should inform risk management, governance and transformation programmes.

The event will be interactive and designed for an informed audience working across cybersecurity, digital transformation, fraud, risk and related advisory engagements.

This event is open to MCA members. Please ensure that you use your work email address when registering below.
