MCA Online Workshop | Beyond Delivery: Advancing Value-Based Consulting for SME Firms
Clients have always expected consulting firms to demonstrate value throughout an engagement. For consultants operating at – or aspiring to – Chartered standard, this level of rigour should already be embedded: value outcomes should frame delivery, guide decisions, and remain visible and measurable throughout the project lifecycle.
This session will look at how consultants in SME firms can understand, apply and continually refine value based client benefits across the full lifecycle of an engagement as a disciplined professional practice. Participants will explore how to translate agreed value outcomes into day to day project decisions so that every activity, output and intervention demonstrably contributes to the intended benefits.
Our panellists, including Nick Coburn (Resulting IT), Simon Lipscomb (Efficio), Fiz Yazdi (Sopra Steria Next) and Minal Mehta (Gate One), will share real life examples of applying these disciplines: how they have managed complex value scenarios, navigated client pressures, and built robust benefit tracking mechanisms that withstand challenge.
Insights will include
How to manage when client requirements shift mid engagement
Diagnosing benefits at risk early
Maintaining objectivity under client pressure or when value tracking is deprioritised in favour of speed
Balancing quantitative and qualitative value
For Background: At a professional, Chartered aligned level, consultants are expected to actively and continually monitor and measure the delivery of value, using leading indicators, benefit at risk signals and data driven insights to ensure the direction, structure and pace of work remain aligned to the outcomes agreed with the client. This includes taking responsibility for identifying material issues early, recommending modifications, initiating corrective action, and making confident tactical decisions to protect—and maximise—value.
