MCA members are invited to an online briefing hosted by the Sustainability Working Group and open to all members with Professor Kirstine Dale, Chief AI Officer at the Met Office.
The session will cover how the Met Office is approaching the adoption and use of AI to transform its forecasting and public work. The Met Office is at the forefront of analysing and leading the UK’s climate adaptation and resilience, and its use of advanced technology and now AI at scale is an important new phase in weather and climate science.
The briefing will aim to:
- Explain how forecasting is being enhanced by AI to deliver more accurate and more granular forecasts amidst a changing climate and a rise in extreme weather events.
- Explore the challenges and opportunities presented by the adoption of AI to one of the world’s leading meteorological institutions, from maintaining public trust to justifying the sustainability impact of its use.
- Discuss the wider role of the consultancy sector in supporting high-profile public-sector clients with the adoption of AI and the organisational change required.
