New research commissioned by AtkinsRéalis into investor attitudes towards UK infrastructure reveals that 90% of institutional investors consider the UK an attractive destination for infrastructure investment over the next three years—surpassing all other global markets. Despite this optimism, two thirds of investors have admitted to walking away from projects where the business case was insufficiently robust.
The research cautions that this favourable outlook constitutes only a limited window of opportunity. Although 65% of investors remain committed to UK infrastructure, just 19% would firmly prioritise the UK over other regions, and 64% have previously withdrawn from UK projects due to unappealing business cases. As global competition for capital continues to intensify, it is crucial for the UK to act decisively in order to transform positive sentiment into concrete private investment for its infrastructure projects.
