Account Manager

If you had told me a year ago that I would be thriving in the fast paced world of management consulting, I might have given you a sceptical look. My background was entirely in event management, a world of strict timelines, high stakes, and intense logistics. But pulling off a flawless event isn’t so different from aligning a corporate strategy. Both require you to organise chaotic, moving parts and guide people toward a unified goal.
When I moved into consulting, I expected to be a pure problem solver. What surprised me most, however, is that consulting isn’t always about handing a client a shiny, ready-made solution on a silver platter. It is about strategy, architecture, and often, pure project management. You are the glue. You aren’t just diagnosing the issue; you are acting as the driving force that helps the client execute the cure.
Because of my background, I look at corporate challenges through a human lens. I have found my sweet spot in organisational design and team optimisation. For me, making a significant impact means ensuring a client’s internal teams are structurally sound. I focus on making sure roles are meaningful, filled with the right talent, and that team motivation is high. You can have the best strategy in the world, but if the people executing it are disengaged or misaligned, it will fail. Bringing a skilful, motivated team to life so they can hit their daily deliverables is where I add real value.
To survive and thrive in this intense industry, I lean heavily on two things: AI and an uncompromising personal routine, I firmly believe AI is the future of consulting. In a fast paced environment, using it correctly makes you sharper and more effective. AI keeps my work hours efficient – maintaining my well-being is important. Setting realistic expectations and boundaries is essential, but so is taking that time out for yourself. The second the laptop closes, I switch off by getting outside and staying active. Beyond that, making sure I have plans lined up to create fun experiences with friends and family always helps me fully disconnect and re-energise.
People often ask where the creativity is in corporate consulting. For me, creativity is found directly within strategising and problem solving, which is something I am incredibly lucky to have the chance to do each day.
If you are thinking about making the leap into consulting, my advice is simple: Do it but bring your unique story with you. Don’t worry if you don’t fit a traditional corporate mould. Be yourself, not someone you think they want you to be, because that is how you build real trust.
The industry doesn’t need clones; it needs adaptable thinkers who can manage relationships, embrace tools like AI, and bring fresh perspectives from other industries. Make sure to keep a healthy boundary for your personal time, stay curious, and embrace the chaos, it’s a wild, incredibly rewarding ride.
