Chartered Management Consultant of the year
During a career spanning more than 18 years, James Swaffield has developed into a role model for fellow consultants and a cheerleader for the power and value of management consultancy.
Over the last five years at IMPOWER his qualities have truly come to the fore while working in complex and challenging circumstances. His dedication to engaging and empowering clients, and the many players they interact with, through partnership working has helped to deliver sustainable change across health and social care.
James’ success is built on an ability to challenge clients’ thinking in a bold, skilful and compelling way and, on occasion, taking a counterintuitive stance, a prime example being persuading a council facing major cuts to invest in social care, resulting in transformative success.
The projects he’s led alongside clients have cut costs and improved outcomes for vulnerable people while enabling the consultancy to further enhance its reputation and move into new areas.
He’s immensely proud to be nominated as Chartered Management Consultant of the year, setting that as his goal 15 years ago having seen his mentor receive the Change Management Consultant award in 2009.
“James has an incredible breadth of both sector and industry understanding,” says Dame Barbara Hakin, former Deputy CEO of NHS England. “He’s gifted at partnership development, has true depth in health and social care expertise, and is seen as a strategy leader for the consultancy. His contribution, and the manner in which he offers it, is hugely valued by clients, partners and his team.”
