Abdul Hassan, KPMG

Best New Apprentice

As the first apprentice at KPMG to specialise in the firm’s Strategy Consulting practice, Abdul Hassan is having quite an impact. He joined the firm’s rotational 360° Apprenticeship Programme and moved into Strategy Consulting last year. He has already made significant contributions through working on several challenging assignments. His passion lies with ESG – Abdul has been instrumental in the establishment of a market-leading ESG Strategy team, working on all the ESG projects the team has sold. He has helped clients understand and upskill for the ESG challenge and fundamentally change to be more resilient. He has had an impact internally too – designing and delivering virtual training around ESG to help upskill his colleagues. In short, Abdul has performed far above what would be expected of someone his grade.

He dedicates a significant amount of his time to promoting apprenticeships through speaking on panels, mentoring juniors and onboarding apprentices. Social mobility is at the forefront of his mind and he is passionate about creating opportunities for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Moreover, The Financial Times, Evening Standard and Accountancy Daily have interviewed him regarding this work.

Externally, Abdul was elected as Vice-Chair at the Young MCA, where he is in charge of promoting school leaver programmes across the Consulting industry. He organises the delivery of workshops, across a range of topical issues, and is formulating a document to promote Consulting as an attractive option for school leavers. This will be sent to schools and colleges across the UK.
