Best New Apprentice
As the first apprentice to specialise in management consultancy in Scotland at KPMG in the UK, David McIntosh is pioneering a new path. The work he has been engaged in has also been pioneering – helping the public authority respond to aspects of a major emerging health issue. Supporting the data lineage workstream and leading some aspects within it, David has contributed to the creation of a testing programme. He has run workshops to upskill stakeholders to enable them to run the deliverables independently.
Such data work is highly technical – but David has relished the learning curve. He has forged a path in other key respects too. Coming from a disadvantaged background, he has become a champion of social mobility, proactively approaching the Glasgow Office Senior Partner with the proposition of establishing a social mobility network in Scotland. David now leads a network that comprises over 50 social mobility mentors across Scottish offices, as well as sitting on KPMG’s national Social Mobility Advisory Group. He spoke at an all-firm conference last year about social values – but the undoubted highlight was being selected to speak to HM the Queen in an event marking KPMG’s 150th anniversary where he talked to Her Majesty about the social mobility agenda and his own personal experiences.
David even finds time to run his own podcast series discussing social issues, attracting some high profile speakers. David sums his efforts up by saying: “I believe you rise by lifting others. That’s the approach I live by.”
