36 UK Consultancy Firms Leading the Way in ChMC Programme Accreditation

Chartered Management Consultant (ChMC), a joint initiative by the Management Consultancies Association (MCA) and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), is rapidly gaining traction among the leading UK consultancies, particularly small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs). A total of 36 consultancy firms have now achieved ChMC programme accreditation, marking a significant milestone in elevating industry standards.

Of the 36 accredited firms, 29 are MCA members, highlighting the widespread adoption of ChMC within the MCA community. This milestone also includes 7 non-MCA firms, demonstrating the broad appeal and impact of ChMC across the consultancy landscape. Offering in-house ChMC accreditation presents significant advantages.

Since its official launch in April 2021, ChMC has grown significantly, with over 50 of the UK’s leading consultancy firms now committed to getting their teams Chartered. Among them, 18 SMEs are now participating with 12 of these also having an accredited learning & development (L&D) programme. Programme accreditation provides assurance for clients, signifying a firm’s adherence to the ChMC framework and a commitment to the highest standards of training and development.

Recent findings from the CMI reveal that nine out of ten consultants agree that being a Chartered Management Consultant: recognises their proven track record in management consulting, demonstrates their commitment to their personal and professional development, allows them to demonstrate a level of excellence and credibility to their clients, and demonstrates their integrity and commitment to ethics through adherence to the ChMC competency framework.1

Tamzen Isacsson, Chief Executive Officer at MCA said:

“The number of Chartered consultants has already grown 30% this year, a big increase on last year’s tremendous uptake and it’s encouraging to see so many firms securing programme accreditation. ChMC is a win-win for clients, individuals and consultancy firms and is setting the highest standards of consulting services for the industry.”

Ann Francke, Chief Executive Officer at CMI, said:

“The ChMC represents a significant milestone in the professionalisation of management consulting. We are delighted to see so many firms embracing accreditation and demonstrating their commitment to excellence. The CMI is dedicated to supporting the ongoing development of the ChMC framework and ensuring its continued relevance and impact.”

The benefits of ChMC accreditation extend beyond internal development to aligning with industry best practices, providing objective quality assurance, and establishing a recognised career path for management consultants. These advantages contribute to firms’ reputations, competitiveness, and ability to attract and retain top talent.
