MCA COMMENT ON NEW PROCUREMENT ACT

Commenting on the new Procurement Act, Tamzen Isacsson, Chief Executive of the Management Consultancies Association (MCA), said:

“The introduction of the new Procurement Act heralds a significant opportunity for SME consultancies as well as for public sector organisations looking to access the full range of advice and support available in the private sector.

“For too long SMEs have found it difficult or overly burdensome to access public procurement opportunities, with levels of public sector spend on SME consultancy firms remaining stubbornly low. We are therefore encouraged by new rules focusing on increasing transparency, reducing bureaucratic barriers, and simplifying bidding processes. Taken together, this is a promising step towards unlocking significant opportunities for smaller firms as well as for the public sector.

However, the success of the Procurement Act will depend on its implementation, which in large part will rely on public sector commercial teams making the most of the new rules. We encourage the Government to continue to support the wider public sector with training and guidance as we unlock the full opportunities of the Act and enhance the role of SMEs in driving innovation and growth.”
