Harriet Burrows, Gate One

Young Consultant of the Year

MCA Awards 2024 FinalistHarriet Burrows has enjoyed, what she calls, “a squiggly career”. After spending two years as a change consultant, she took an in-house role at the Department for Transport as Head of Culture and Leadership, to know how it feels to stand in an executive’s shoes, before moving to Gate One as a consultant. Today she leads with a blend of consultancy and coaching, which she flexes depending on what each client needs most.

As well as getting into her clients’ minds, Harriet enters their hearts with her creative approach to work. This desire to do things differently – and make a difference – has resulted in some impressive outcomes, including enabling Crossrail to harness the collective expertise of 35 competitive Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, and helping Hiscox achieve 70% uptake of its new CRM system in just 6 weeks post-launch when the project had failed 5x previously.

Harriet is keen to use her experiences and expertise to help others:

  • Creating bite-sized coaching tools and methodologies for her colleagues to use with their clients.
  • Presenting a keynote to 300 employees at the UK’s leading supermarket about the importance of maintaining a growth mindset.
  • Supporting an underrepresented cohort within the rail industry through the creation of a women’s community.

Furthermore, after being recognised as ‘Most Influential Woman in Executive Coaching 2023 (London)’, Harriet is using the accolade to challenge the stigma about someone like her – a “young”, “inexperienced”, “female” – being a coach.
