Number of Chartered Management Consultants (ChMCs) Passes 1,500

Over 1,500 management consultants from firms of all sizes have now achieved Chartered status, highlighting their commitment to excellence within the industry. The Chartered Management Consultant (ChMC) accreditation ensures that these consultants have consistently upheld the highest ethical standards while delivering the highest level of service.

Created by the Management Consultancies Association (MCA) in partnership with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), this accreditation assures clients of the quality and service provided by ChMC consultants and ChMC has seen 30% growth in the volume already this year.

To date, over 1,500 consultants have been awarded Chartership, with more than 4,000 currently on the journey. Over 50 leading consulting firms, including PwC, EY, Arup, and Moorhouse, are also engaged in the ChMC accreditation process. This initiative reflects the scaling efforts of both large global consulting brands and smaller firms, such as PPL and Akeso & Co.

The ChMC accreditation aims to secure greater recognition for the professionalism of management consulting. The growing number of Chartered Management Consultants underscores the industry’s dedication to upholding and enhancing professional standards.

A recent ChMC survey by CMI revealed that 99% agreed the accreditation acknowledges a proven track record in management consulting. Additionally, 97% felt it showcases integrity and ethical commitment through the ChMC Competency Framework, and professional dedication to the field. 96% believed it enhances their credibility with clients, 85% said it motivates them to stay in the industry, and 90% found it useful for identifying areas for growth.

The ChMC designation was built by the sector and is shaped by client needs. It recognises management consulting as a high-quality profession that requires continuous demonstration and maintenance of professional competencies.

Tamzen Isacsson, Chief Executive Officer at MCA, said:

“The increasing number of ChMCs highlights the industry’s dedication to raising professional standards and delivering excellent consulting services to clients. We developed this rigorous accreditation in partnership with the CMI for consultants to help them demonstrate their gold standard credentials and commitment to ethics. I hope that every leading consulting firm and consultant will embrace this important award.”

Ann Francke, Chief Executive Officer at CMI, said:

“Achieving 1,500 ChMCs is a major milestone for the industry. This accreditation highlights not just skilled leaders and consultancy managers but also offers a professional, recognised credential grounded in a top industry framework. The CMI is dedicated to keeping the ChMC accreditation relevant and impactful for the industry and its workforce.”

As the highest accolade in the management consulting profession, ChMC demonstrates superior expertise, high levels of professional integrity and advanced leadership and management capabilities within the consulting operating environment. The increasing number of ChMCs emphasises the effort to elevate the recognition of management consulting professionalism.

It ensures that clients receive the highest quality and most professional consulting services available. On a year-over-year basis, the number of Chartered Management Consultants has increased by 64% compared to last year, reflecting a significant 122% growth over the past two years.
