With an increasingly changing market landscape, VWFS and BearingPoint embarked on a project to ensure the Retail Sales team, responsible for managing Retailer relationships and performance, were organised and equipped so that they would be ‘fit for future’


Volkswagen Financial Services UK (VWFS) provide finance, servicing, insurance and mobility products for customers across the Volkswagen Group UK. VWFS works to deliver good customer outcomes to both personal and business customers by making mobility easy, simple and transparent.

The automotive industry is undergoing one of the biggest transformations in its history. Changing customer demand, increasing costs and the shift towards electrification require organisations to be more agile and efficient than ever. To ensure that VWFS continue to operate and adapt accordingly, it was necessary to consider changes in line with various external factors.

The project: given this outlook, how should the Retail Sales team, responsible for managing Retailer relationships and performance, be organised and equipped to be ‘fit for future’?

  1. BearingPoint and VWFS embarked on a comprehensive initiative to tackle these challenges head-on. A collaborative 4-phase approach was established:
  2. Discover: A 6-week analysis of internal and external factors supported by firm-wide SMEs, review of current operating model, and in-depth assessment of people and performance data.
  3. Design: Developed a high-level target operating model (TOM), data-led detailed design, identified TOM implications, and defined a phased implementation plan.
  4. Implement: Managed implementation delivery to successfully realise People, Process, Technology and Data changes under the project name ‘Fusion.’
  5. Enable & Sustain: Delivered a bespoke ‘transformation enablement’ programme to address capability requirements and support changes to ways of working, underpinning a cultural transformation.

The initiative led to significant improvements in performance that have sustained since the programme concluded. VWFS sponsors praised the structured, collaborative approach, and the expertise and challenge provided by BearingPoint.
