More government spend expected in run up to Brexit, says MCA

MCA statement in response to August Public Sector figures

Commenting on the August Public Sector Finance figures released today, Tamzen Isacsson, Chief Executive, MCA, said:

“There should be no surprise that the UK’s public finances were again weaker than expected in August amid continued Brexit uncertainty which is impacting businesses across the UK. In terms of government preparations for Brexit, departments have faced an unprecedented volume of workload planning for all Brexit scenarios and using external resources has enabled the Government to work quickly and with intensity on major programmes across the UK. This is a critical time and the Government needs extra capacity, specialist knowledge and expertise at short notice. More Government spend is expected in the run up to Brexit as it brings in world class technical expertise and multi-disciplinary capabilities to strengthen the UK’s Brexit planning processes.”
