The Management Consultancies Association (MCA) is holding its annual lecture and reception today (Thursday 11th July, 2013) on the day that the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) publishes its strategy for Professional and Business Services.
The UK economy has changed dramatically over the last 40 years and while public attention has been focused on manufacturing and finance, it is the professional services sector that has been the quiet success story driving UK economic growth.
Business Secretary Vince Cable said: “Professional and Business Services is the largest sector of our economy and employs thousands of skilled and talented people. It has been growing at four per cent for the last decade and we need to ensure this growth is sustained in the long-term. That's why we have worked in partnership with businesses to produce a strategy for the professional and business services sector – our shared ambition is for the UK to become the global hub for services like consultancy.”
Alan Leaman, Chief Executive of the MCA, says: “The Professional Services are playing a vitally important role in driving growth in the UK economy. The consulting industry in the UK has been recognised as a global leader. Our knowledge economy is central to further economic growth.
“We are delighted that Dr Vince Cable will be delivering this year’s lecture. It will be interesting to hear from the Secretary of State on how he views the role of professional services in the emerging UK industrial and economic strategy.”
Previous speakers at the MCA lecture have included Sir Howard Davies, Mihir Bose and Michael Portillo.
