Having witnessed the global financial crisis through the lens of academia and policy, Piyush Patel is fascinated by how society, its institutions and corporations continually respond and reinvent themselves in the face of a market and societal paradigm shift.
As part of EY’s energy strategy practice, Piyush has been at the centre of a sector that is seeing just such a fundamental shift: simply holding assets no longer translates into value; customer propositions are having to expand across broader stakeholder groups; and first-of-a-kind programmes are being pioneered to set the standards for the future.
As increasingly complex capital projects have to overcome tougher economic, financial and non-financial hurdles, Piyush helps clients to create value in structurally shifting sands. To do this he supports clients through three lenses of strategy and business model innovation; redefining value propositions, commercial innovation and stakeholder collaboration.
By creating unique points of view that build on principles rather than frameworks, and putting co-design at the heart of client engagement, he aims to create lasting client impact. Highlights include:
- Building a winning proposition for a major oilfield services company for an innovative £3bn North Sea integrated drilling contract, engaging across multiple supply chain partners to create shared value
- Shaping a business case and commercial strategy to renegotiate a public-private funding model for a £5bn+, first-of-a-kind 30-year power plant fleet decommissioning programme, securing a value-for-money deal between parties
- Developing a strategy for the UK’s nascent shale gas supply chain, securing government funding for technical innovation.
