It’s been an exciting few months for the Young MCA, with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) hosted by Arup my personal highlight. The AGM is one of our key forums for members to raise their innovative ideas and contribute to the yearly strategy. We heard from guest speaker and Deloitte MCA Board Member Nadun Muthukumarana who encouraged us to be the force for change and how our role as young consultants are critical in shaping the future of consulting. We also explored within smaller groups how we can continue to shape and mould the Young MCA to suit the needs of our members across the four key areas; events, networks, communications and corporate social responsibility. I’d like to thank all those who attended the AGM for their commitment, enthusiasm and contribution to the event’s success. To learn more about the topics discussed at the AGM, please click here.
The Executive Committee have worked hard to incorporate much of the AGM feedback into their respective plans for the next 12 months. We have now begun to take action towards these findings by trialling new technologies such as Slack; a tool which we hope will improve our communications and engagement with our members and provide a platform for discussion and knowledge-sharing. We will continue to investigate alternative technologies which will enable us to better engage and communicate with our members.
As the size of the Young MCA Steering Committee has grown over the last few years, in July we introduced the new governance structure for the Young MCA team. Going forward, the structure will closely mimic the structure of the MCA, with an Executive Committee and Council. The Executive Committee will include myself as the Chair, the Vice Chairs across the four pillars of Communications, Events, Networks and CSR and additional Area Leads. These individuals will be supported by the working groups which will consist of both Young MCA Council members and members across the network. For those who wish to be more engaged in the Young MCA, this is an excellent way to get involved and align yourself to a particular area of interest. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to become part of one of the four working groups.
All firms will continue to have representation at the Young MCA Council, which constitutes one representative from each firm. For further details on the new governance structure, please contact Kevin Kear (kevin.kear@mca.org.uk)
Finally, we are excited to announce the celebration of the Young MCA’s 10th Anniversary! This will be hosted by Deloitte and held in early December where we will take the opportunity to celebrate all we have achieved in the last 10 years and look towards what the future holds for us in consulting. As we enter the final quarter of the year, we will deliver a series of academic engagements to objectively promote the consulting profession. As an outcome of the AGM, we will be working on extending our reach beyond our usual university engagements and have already begun looking at having a presence in school environments.
As always, we appreciate all feedback from members and would love to hear your thoughts. We look forward to hearing from you. You can contact us via youngmca@mca.org.uk or @TheYoungMCA
