Catherine Whelan, EY

Catherine-Whelan-EY

Young Consultant of the Year

Catherine has been described as someone who ‘grabs the white space’. She has been successful in growing opportunities for EY and furthering the mission of one of its key clients in the energy sector. She leads with authenticity and humility and creates inclusive environments, achieving her success by focussing on growing the people around her.

A snapshot of her achievements:

  • As EY Account Manager for the major energy sector client, she has grown the account to £7 million, spanning 25 consultants – with 80% of engagements leading to further work.
  • The relationship she has built with the client led to an independent call-off contract of 3.5 years, which will ultimately benefit UK citizens and the country’s sustainability agenda.
  • She has conducted pro-bono work in driving thought leadership throughout the nuclear sector. For example, she recently facilitated a roundtable with sector reps to discuss the skills and capabilities needed for a more secure energy future in the UK.
  • She has established key Learning Service contracts with a number of high-profile public sector organisations.

Catherine’s work on addressing gender parity in the nuclear industry is inspiring. She is coordinating the Women in Nuclear awards, co-leading a drive for getting women into the industry and supporting their careers and driving growth, typically in remote locations. In addition, she is spearheading the drive for the firm to become a member of the Women in Nuclear network.
