Lifetime Achievement Award
Mark Enzer’s career has one common thread running throughout: his innate desire to make the world a better place. His intent to ‘do something good’ has led him to lead on some truly meaningful work, positively shaping the infrastructure landscape in the UK and beyond.
Mark holds the belief that for industry change we need a systems-based, outcomes-focused, and community-enabled approach. Systems-based refers to perceiving the world through relationships rather than in separate parts, appreciating the interconnectedness of the problem. This belief was championed in his contributions to the 2023 report ‘Our Shared Understanding’, summarising the concepts informing the transition to a circular economy. This report has driven policy and progressed the conversation about the need for a systems-focus when solving our big climate problems.
In the last two years, a lot of Mark’s focus has been on sharing his career’s learnings through his roles as visiting professor at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London and as strategic advisory director at Mott MacDonald. He uses these platforms to share the lessons he has learnt with clients and the young minds that will drive change in the years to come.
Mark’s achievements were recognised through his award of an OBE for “Services to the National Infrastructure” and election as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2021. These achievements help to externally increase the recognition for a systems-based approach to change, and he intends to continue leveraging his platform in years to come.
