Mason Advisory, Best New Consultancy

Best New Consultancy

Established in April 2014, Mason Advisory is a digital & technology transformation consultancy. The start was inauspicious – but once the growth kicked in, it was dramatic.

The key to our success is building trusted relationships with clients. Over three-quarters of revenue is from repeat business, and our continued growth comes from being able to nurture new clients while working on long-term accounts.

A current client has described our work as “truly game-changing”. Another has said, “there’s something magic about them”. We think it’s our culture that’s at the heart of what makes us different. It’s about fun and positivity, but also about caring for clients and each other, about recognising everyone’s value, and a sincere commitment to being responsible citizens and supporting our communities. We provide exceptional performers right across our teams; we don’t take work where we can’t make a difference; and we are emotionally invested in what happens to our clients.

Six years into our story, we acknowledged we weren’t a start-up anymore. To reflect this new level of maturity – more than a six-fold increase in revenue, and similar growth in headcount – we launched the Operational Excellence programme to look at processes and ways of working in Sales, Client Delivery, Resourcing, Knowledge Management and Culture, Values & Talent (with other workstreams downstream). This is already leading to innovations in systems and processes that will ensure scalability for our planned growth – a further doubling of revenue and headcount over the next four years.

It’s been an extraordinary year, and we’re not out of it yet, but our incredible culture has meant that we have been able to adjust to this strange new ‘normal’. Our usual flexibility has extended to support everyone’s personal circumstances, whether that be dealing with underlying health conditions, caring commitments, homeschooling, or feelings of isolation.

Mason Advisory has always focused on wellbeing, but it’s now more important than ever. Our wellbeing programme and bi-monthly newsletter have supported a weekly virtual running club and yoga hour every week, a regular Tea & Talk chat with homemade cake competitions, and a virtual 10km raising over GBP8000 for Cancer Research UK. There have also been virtual book clubs, quizzes, and beer tasting.

We are also trying to continue with BAU in these unusual times. As a more mature business, we have formally committed to focusing on diversity & inclusion (D&I). It is embedded as a pillar of our new strategy, and our People & Talent Manager is instigating a D&I programme of work. And professional development continues to be crucial to having happy staff: we introduced a new Learning & Development (L&D) programme in 2020 including supporting staff in professional memberships.
