A Day in the Life of David Connors, PwC

Company: PwC
University: University of Melbourne
Degree: BA (Hons) Commerce
Location: London
Job title: Associate

I work for…. I work for PwC Consulting. I work in the More London office which has a postcard worthy view of Tower Bridge.

The thing I enjoy most about working in a global consultancy is…  Making use of opportunities available to me. Every door is open for exploring and you can 'try something on for size 'if you don't like it you can switch to something else. I've really enjoyed working in a variety of industries, across a variety of competencies, and across a variety of timezones! A few other points I should briefly mention are the huge investment in training and development, the global reach of the firm and the ability to develop your global network, and just the overall resources at your disposal.

The most interesting project I’ve worked on is … Actually my current project! I'm working with a global music corporation to improve the way they manage and distribute their content across the world. Getting a music video on iTunes is a lot more work than I thought!

I was first attracted to consultancy because… To be honest, I really wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do. Consulting was attractive to me as it offered the ability to try your hand at different jobs in different industries to see what was a good fit. The access to senior leadership and immediate client facing work were also definite draw cards.

If I could change one thing in consultancy it would be… the jargon. We try to avoid it but some people just love using consulting jargon.

Something about PwC you don’t know is… we put on an annual Christmas Pantomime to over 7,000 inner-city disadvantaged kids – and this year I'm in the all-singing all-dancing cast!

The best piece of advice anyone has ever given me is… The best? Well a classic from Dale Carnegie – remember that a person's name is, to that person, the sweetest and most important sound in any language.

Young MCA involvement… I'm currently working on the Young MCA's CSR Project with Railway Children. I've been working on the India work stream with two very talented Deloitte consultants Andy and Sonam. We're all looking forward to the upcoming showcase event where we can present our hard work!
