Peter Shanahan, EY

Experienced Leader Award

Peter Shanahan is a Director at EY who focuses on the health care sector. His commitment to improving health care provisions and addressing the inequalities in terms of access to health care were born from his career in the NHS. Today, after a decade of working as a consultant, the impact his leadership has had at a societal level is very tangible. Peter has led many different health care clients – from the NHS to Life Science companies – towards more efficiency through strategy development. He has also explored improved delivery models with NHS clients and advised on over 30 mergers and acquisitions within the NHS.

Crucially, he played a key role in the UK’s emergency health care response to the COVID-19 pandemic where his work supported the set-up of the NHS Nightingale hospital in Manchester. Working to a very tight deadline, he led a large number of stakeholders and partners to deliver a politically complex project through his strong leadership qualities. Elsewhere, Peter has been working with Life Science companies to bring new products to the market and help them move towards value-based outcomes. Overall, Peter is motivated by improving the health and wellbeing of people across society, supporting better access to preventative health care services and addressing overall health inequalities.
