Change and Transformation in the Public Sector
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) wanted to sharpen its operational agility by enabling closer data integration between different defence domains (maritime, land, air, space and cyber). Achieving that means transforming its information capabilities by investing in digital technologies, including automation and artificial intelligence (AI). The MoD is also working on a major digital and data transformation initiative to help it rapidly unlock valuable insights from rising volumes of data streaming in from sensors.
As part of the MoD’s digital and data transformation, Cognizant, Contino, and its partners helped the ministry strengthen its data, AI, and data science capabilities. We equipped the MoD with a loosely coupled, secure, scalable, and reusable multi-tenant data analytics platform. In addition, we gave staff working on MoD devices access to defence data, analytical tools and powerful computational resources that could scale to meet demand. This enables MoD personnel to gain insights and make decisions based on accurate, secure data using state-of-the-art tools and techniques. The MoD has already deployed powerful use cases – such as better managing satellite imagery, remotely monitoring personnel health in real time, and boosting the efficiency of pilot training.
The project was sponsored by the Digital Foundry – a new federated partnership across defence that pioneers new ways to access data seamlessly and exploit it rapidly.
